Online Privacy: Using The Internet Safely

https://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs18-cyb.htm The internet enables us to improve communication, erase physical barriers, and expand our education. It's a very resourceful tool. The internet is good for applying for jobs and where we get our news to how we find friends. The internet to this day remains unregulated and the policies governing it underdeveloped. Laws concerning privacy are still being developed. To this day the supreme court has taken initiative to regulating the internet and privacy in favor of free speech. However the government is interested in regulating the internet for example through pornography and gambling laws.

When you are on the internet you provide information to others without you even knowing it. This information that you provided can have drawbacks. For example information you provide to one person or a company may not make sense unless it is combined with information you provide to another person or company. There are several ways you can give information to others when using the internet. For example when you sign up for the internet and you pay for internet youself your signed up with and Internt seervice provider ISP. Your ISP connects your computer to the internet. Each computer that's connected to the internet has a certain adresss known as an IP adress. It has four sets of numbers separated by dots. That munber is used to allow you to send and receive information over the internet. Your IP adress doesn't provide your personal information because your ISP knows your IP adress; it is a weak link when it comes to protecting your privacy.

When you send somebody an email what you don't know is that you could be giving information to the recipient. You might also be giving information to many other people as well such as your employer, the government, your email provider and anybody that the recipient passes the information to. Alot of people may not know it but the internet does have drawbacks that come with it.

Risk To Internet Privacy

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_privacy

In our world today many people are subject to privacy threats. For instance companies are hired to watch what sites people are visiting online and the information they use by advertising  their browsing history. It's good that companies do this because it will make them aware of the information people are putting online such as their bank and credit card information to unknown websites. That's how the internet can take your information wihout you even knowing. If companies weren't aware of this people's lives online would get worse .They would be in danger.

People who are concerned about internet privacy can use a number of privacy risks that will help them be safe online. For instance they can use parental controls especially if they are a tennager under 18 years of age to block them from going to inappropiate sites, and only their parents have permission to see what sites their going to that's not for them. Another way would be blocking certain sites so the person won't have access to go to it at all. These are ways to help you stay safe online.

Privacy measures are provided on several social networking sites to try to provide the users with protection for their personal information. For example facebook has privacy settings for all people who are registered on the site. The seetings available on fb include the ability to block certain people from seeing their profile, to choose ones friends and the ability to limit who has access to see their pictures, videos, and things they post. Privacy settings are also available on other social networking sites such as twitter, tumblur, skpe etc. It's up to the person to apply which settings they want to use that woks for them in order to avoid providing your personal information online.

Children nowadays are very permiscious to misusing the internet and risking their privacy. Parents are concerned about why their children are starting to use fb and other social networking sites on a daily basis. Website information collection is also another concern as young people are more vulnerable and unaware of the fact that all their infomation and browsing can be tracked by visiting popular sites. People who use the internet have to realize that they must protect their own privacy. They must be aware about all the risks involved while surfing the internet and browsing. For example on twitter which I didn't know threats include links that can lead a person to harmful places. When a user is in their email inbox threats can include email scams and attachments that get them to reveal personal information. That's why it's always important when your on the internet to make sure sites you go to are secure because if their not it can cause a virus to your computer.

The Internet privacy and Personal Access at risk

The Internet privacy and Personal Access at riskhttp://www.projectcensored.org/top-stories/articles/3-internet-privacy-and-personal-access-at-risk/ I chose this topic because I want to make people aware of the dangerous risks of Internet and giving out personal information on the computer. A lot of people don't know that the Internet takes your information. For example a lot of the social networking sites like facebook, twitter, tumblur, skype, Instagram etc want people to type in their personal information just to get them on the site. They really don't know what the internet is doing. Eventually they use your information against you later on. Another thing that's dangerous is people posting inappropiate pictures on the internet. For example facebook many people post pictures on facebook either naked, or just because they want the attention, to get likes. It's so stupid. What people don't know is that once you put something on the internet it's no longer private, everyone can see it. Even when you delete something on the internet it's always gonna be their it never goes away. You may think it's deleted but it's really not. It shows that you don't have any respect and dignity for yourself.  This generation today is so outrageous.
