Online Privacy: Using The Internet Safely

https://www.privacyrights.org/fs/fs18-cyb.htm The internet enables us to improve communication, erase physical barriers, and expand our education. It's a very resourceful tool. The internet is good for applying for jobs and where we get our news to how we find friends. The internet to this day remains unregulated and the policies governing it underdeveloped. Laws concerning privacy are still being developed. To this day the supreme court has taken initiative to regulating the internet and privacy in favor of free speech. However the government is interested in regulating the internet for example through pornography and gambling laws.

When you are on the internet you provide information to others without you even knowing it. This information that you provided can have drawbacks. For example information you provide to one person or a company may not make sense unless it is combined with information you provide to another person or company. There are several ways you can give information to others when using the internet. For example when you sign up for the internet and you pay for internet youself your signed up with and Internt seervice provider ISP. Your ISP connects your computer to the internet. Each computer that's connected to the internet has a certain adresss known as an IP adress. It has four sets of numbers separated by dots. That munber is used to allow you to send and receive information over the internet. Your IP adress doesn't provide your personal information because your ISP knows your IP adress; it is a weak link when it comes to protecting your privacy.

When you send somebody an email what you don't know is that you could be giving information to the recipient. You might also be giving information to many other people as well such as your employer, the government, your email provider and anybody that the recipient passes the information to. Alot of people may not know it but the internet does have drawbacks that come with it.
